I didn’t know cows could be homophobic dickheads stuck in the past but hey, now we know.
We’ve got a franchise on my old campus, and when it first opened was a big controversy. Some students and professors protested and boycotted, and tried to get the school to open a different restaurant. Others thought that a company should be able to spend their money how they liked and that people shouldn’t complain about it. Additionally, Chick-fil-A was the first restaurant on campus to stay open till seven-thirty, so it was quite popular (and difficult to boycott when you had an evening class).
Officially, the university never took action, and the protests quickly turned into quiet boycott. Talking with some people in the university administration though, I was told that finding out about Chik-fil-A’s spending practices had come as a big shock to the higher-ups. They almost decided to void their newly-signed five year contract, but ultimately felt they couldn’t afford the repercussions. Still, I will be very interested to see what happens when that contract ends.
